Brighton & Hove Albion opened their Women's Super League campaign in spectacular fashion, cruising to a 4-0 win over Everton, led by a stunning debut hat-trick from Kiko Seike. The Japanese forward opened the scoring in the 29th minute, adding further strikes in the 56th and 75th minutes to secure her place as the star of the match.
Seike’s performance was the highlight of a dominant display by Brighton, who also saw Fran Kirby net from the penalty spot in the 68th minute on her first appearance for the club. Brighton kept up the pressure, searching for a fifth goal as the game entered stoppage time. Meanwhile, Everton's day went from bad to worse, suffering another opening day defeat — their record-extending eighth in the WSL era — compounded by an injury to Aurora Galli.
Seike received a standing ovation as she was substituted late on for Madison Haley, leaving the field after her dream debut. Everton boss Brian Sorensen will be left frustrated after his side’s dismal performance, especially given the injury crisis that plagued them last season.
